Hello from Georgetown, Guyana!
We arrived in the wee hours of the morning on Monday and have been staying at a youth hostel. The flight threw us for a loop (we didn't sleep well) but we've now adjusted and are feeling pretty good! I am writing this from an internet cafe in town so I only have limited time. We have organized everything to bring out to Mahdia and we will be leaving a bit earlier than planned - tonight! We are all excited to get to Mahdia and get started on our project. As for new experiences - we experienced our first blackout (they happen regularly), traffic is very fast, but the people have been amazing so far. We got cellphones donated for our trip and they are a lifesaver. There's not much else to report since we've only been here a day, but I'll leave you with one story:
The lady who has been doing the cooking for us has been amazing. She told us that her husband saw the guitars come in and said that he wished he was lucky enough to be in the community we were going to because he loves to play the guitar but he does not own one. Since we have four, we decided to give one to him. He was so happy - it was truly amazing. To be able to give such happiness from such a small act is just awesome.
Looking forward to sharing more stories later - but rumours are internet will be more sparse in Mahdia so I don't know when or if I will be able to update again. Don't worry if you don't hear anything - we are doing well!
Need more input!
